1685, Φρανσέσκο Μοροζίνι, Αθήνα
“The plot as the reader will perceive, is grounded on an insurrection which I suppose to have taken place at Athens, about the year 1685, when the victories of Fransisco Morosini in the Morea menaced the Turkish Empire with ruin […] I have represented the character and object of some of the actors in this insurrection as trifling and contemptible, yet I hope, from the sentiments which I have put into the mouths of the two principal personages, and indeed from the general tone of this composition, that it will not be deemed unfavourable to the cause of liberty” (Prologue, iii-iv)
